Summary
The appellant seeks reversal of a decision made by the Baxter Community School District denying her daughter's request for an exemption of the attendance policy's excessive absence rule. She argued that parents should have primary authority to determine if an absence is justified. While parental desires should be should be strongly considered by the schools, it is in the interest of the school in maintaining order overrides the interest of the parent.
The appellant's next point was the validity of the rule itself. It was determined that the board's policy was unreasonable, violates Constitutional procedural due process, and is not based on good educational principles.
The local board's decision is overruled.
