Student W is a resident of Hudson CSD. On May 1, 2021, Chief Banks received a communication from a parent that forwarded a private message identifying Student W. as the sender. The message that the sender was going to shoot up the school was being passed among students. Later that evening, Chief Banks provided the private message to Student W's mother, the superintendent and others at the school. Student W's mother stated he denied making this statement and that he was at a racing event. He thought someone else used his phone.
During an investigation, Chief Banks met with Student W. The superintendent had contemplated cancelling classes on Monday. It was determined Student W did not have access to firearms and that he was the author of the offending message. The conclusions of the investigation were communicated to the superintendent. Classes were not cancelled on Monday. A public statement was released that there was no threat to the school.
School was not cancelled but eighty-six students were absent that Monday. The district released an additional statement to assure the public about maintaining a safe learning environment.
The Board has adopted a policy on Student Conduct. It was recommended expulsion for Student W.
It was recommended that the May 11, 2021 decision of the Board of Directors of the Hudson CSD in this matter be affirmed.
After due consideration by the State Board of Education, the proposed decision in this matter is affirmed.
