Summary

The appellant seeks reversal of a decision by the IHSAA Board of Control on October 19, 2020, finding D.I. ineligible to compete in athletics for ninety consecutive school days. D.I. and his family decided he would open-enroll into the CAM district for ninth grade. All necessary paperwork was completed but D.I. did not make the final decision to attend until much later.

D.I. intended to play junior-high baseball over the summer. However, the Pandemic hit Iowa and canceled junior high sports. But for the Pandemic, D.I. would have played junior-high baseball. D.I. did transfer to CAM for the 2020-21 school year and made the varsity football team. IHSAA denied his request to play. The open enrollment statute did not create an exception to include immediate eligibility for students who open enroll.

The October 19, 2020 decision of the IHSAA that D.I. is ineligible to complete in varsity interscholastic athletic contests and competitions for ninety consecutive school days at CAM High School is AFFIRMED.
