Summary

The appellant seeks reversal of a decision made by the Iowa High School Athletic Association Executive Board denying him an exemption from the eligibility rule that prohibits high school interscholastic athletic competition when a student reaches the age of 20.

The appellant was suspended from school in ninth grade and dropped out without receiving academic credit. After two years, he came to Iowa and returned to school with stellar grades and attendance, along with an attitude change. He testified wrestling boosted him academically as well as socially. Soon after, he turned 20 making him ineligible to compete.

The hearing panel declined to make an exception to the eligibility rule in this case, based on biological maturation factors common to all of us.

The decision made by the Iowa High School Athletic Association is affirmed.
