Assuming the child meets or exceeds the readiness requirements of the district for admission to first grade, a district may advance a pupil directly into the first grade and skip kindergarten, but is not required to do so. It is permissible for a district to include the recommendation of a kindergarten teacher in its acceleration criteria, which presupposes enrollment in kindergarten prior to advancing the student.
